David Rothamer, PhD

David Rothamer is the Robert Lorenz Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering. He is also a principal investigator in the Engine Research Center. His research focuses on problems involving fluid mechanics, chemical kinetics, and combustion of internal combustion engines. Rothamer’s work includes: examining the design of alternative fuels, like ethanol, and how changes in fuel chemistry and properties impact IC engine performance and emissions and understanding the fundamental mechanisms of soot formation during combustion; and designing and applying advanced laser-based imaging diagnostics to make measurements of key quantities in combustion environments.
