Majid Sarmadi, PhD

Majid Sarmadi is the Rothermel Bascom Professor in the School of Human Ecology (SOHE), where he directs the graduate-level textile science specialization in SoHE’s Design Studies program. He also works with students in the Materials Science graduate program. His research foci include: the chemical properties and structures of textile fibers; plasma modifications of polymeric materials; textile sustainability and recycling of polymeric materials; textile specifications and evaluations; dyeing and finishing; and identification of historic dyes. Sarmadi holds three patents in the area of plasma processing of polymeric materials and plasma technology. He has consulted for textile and related industries, state procurement offices, and judicial systems on issues such as wettability, dyeability, flammability, and minimum specification for carpet and other materials.
